Grimes Takes Lead on Veterans Issues

Yesterday, Alison Lundergan Grimes became the first major Democratic candidate to call for Veteran Affairs Secretary Shinseki's resignation -- far from the first time she has spoken out against the Obama administration on veterans' issues. Just earlier this month, Alison penned THIS op-ed for the Kentucky New Era of Hopkinsville (just outside of Fort Campbell) regarding the administration's oversight when it comes to Sallie Mae loan abuse for military personnel.

As Kentucky's Secretary of State, Alison Lundergan Grimes has been a fierce advocate for the Commonwealth's veterans and active duty service members. From traveling to the Middle East to meet with deployed soldiers and assess military voting procedures, to championing bipartisan legislation that ensures our men and women in uniform on the battlefield can have their voices heard at the ballot box, Alison is dedicated to serving Kentucky's veterans and military families.

Alison has also repeatedly called for Mitch McConnell to extend unemployment insurance benefits for Kentucky's impacted veterans before McConnell voted to cut off nearly 200,000 veterans from unemployment benefits. Furthermore, Alison is fighting to permanently extend the VOW to Hire Heroes Act, which incentivizes businesses to hire veterans -- a measure Mitch McConnell voted against earlier this year. Alison's leadership on issues important to veterans and military families remains unquestioned.
